Gold Ribbon Gala 2019!

We’d like to thank everyone that helped make Gold Ribbon Gala 2019 a HUGE success! With your help, we raised over $20,000.00 to benefit local families battling childhood cancer in the coming year!

A special thank you to our MVP Sponsor, Jack Wolf Auto Group. Thank you to our All Star Sponsors, Swedish American Health Systems, Midland States Bank, Wheels By RT, and Taylor Industries, and thank you to all of our table sponsors! Your financial support will go directly to those in our community who need it the most!

Thank you to our Keynote Speaker, Kendall Burton. Your story inspired everyone in attendance. We were reminded that resilience can overcome the most daunting obstacles if you break the war down into day to day battles.

Most of all, thank you to our #teammates. Your courage and ability to find joy where you can lifts the sails of everyone you come into contact with.  You truly do SHINE LIKE GOLD!

Cooking With The Chef is only a few days away!

Many and AlexusJust 2 more days until our third annual Cooking With The Chef event! Can’t wait to see what Chef Manny and the staff at Lucha Cantina have in store for our #teammates. This is the third year they have hosted the event. They shut the restaurant down and bring in local families who are battling cancer and they teach them how to Cook Like The Chef!

The first year we made Lucha Tots, last year it was homemade Salsa and Guacamole! Rumor has it Ice Cream is involved this year!

There is nothing like living in the state-line area. The news loves to tell you about all of the bad things happening in the community. What you don’t always hear about is the many great organizations we have in this town that are always giving back, organizations like Lucha Cantina!

I don’t know exactly what we will be making on Saturday at Lucha Cantina, but I promise you this, we will make a mess while doing it! 🙂

Eric discussing teamwork with groupThis past Saturday Channel 23 News Reporter Eric O’Brien stopped out to one of our (K Cancer Softball and Baseball) softball practices and spoke to us about being good teammates. Eric played High School baseball, then played baseball at the College level as a scholarship athlete. After College he went on to play professional baseball at the Minor League level so he has been there and has the T-shirt to prove it.

The two things that he stressed the most were to have fun and to remember that your teammates will always be there for you, even when things go bad. I wonder if he was talking about softball or life?

About Us!

K Cancer Softball is a travel team that “Competes With Compassion”! When we are not on the softball diamond competing in tournaments at the 11 year old age bracket, we are partnering with the K Cancer Baseball organization in their mission to support local families who are battling childhood cancer!

Did you know that our families whose children are diagnosed with cancer have to travel outside of our community for treatment? This creates a host of challenges that go beyond treatment and hospital bills.

  • Who pays for the gas to travel back and forth to Chicago or Madison for 6 months to a year?
  • How do you afford oil changes, parking, tolls and auto repairs that come with driving crazy miles?
  • How do you make sure the kids at home get fed, make it to school, continue with day to day living while one parent is at the hospital with the patient?
  • How does the grass get mowed and the driveway shoveled?

This is where K Cancer Baseball and Softball gets involved! Together, we raise money to support families with these issues. We attend community events like parades and tournaments to let the folks know about the challenges facing our families. We also help support national organizations like Be The Match Bone Marrow Registry, and Leukemia & Lymphoma Society so that they can distribute services in our area.

If you see our tent at a softball tournament or at a local event, stop by and say hi! We’d love to show you how that together, we can make a difference for those in our community who need our support!
